The 2025/26 event explores the future of fuels from fossil fuels to 鈥済reen鈥� alternatives.

Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer (Heriot Watt University) - Leader of UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre, as well as Deputy Principal of Global Sustainability and Director of the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions at Heriot-Watt University. Primary research interests include "innovation for the wider deployment of low-carbon energy systems required for meeting carbon targets, including...low carbon fuels..."

Professor Mark Symes (University of Glasgow) - Leader of the Symes Group at University of Glasgow and Professor of Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Technology. Primary research interests "are in developing new electrochemical processes and electrochemical technology for the more sustainable production of fuels and key chemical feedstocks".

Professor Sara Walker SFHEA (University of Birmingham) - Professor of Energy and Co-Director of the Birmingham Energy Institute. Research focus on energy transitions, and whole energy systems, with an interest in building energy performance and hydrogen integration into energy systems".

2026 Distinguished Guest Lecturer

Professor Nazia M Habib FRSA (University of Cambridge) - Founder and Research Centre Director for the Centre for Resilience and Sustainable Development. "Professor Habib鈥檚 research currently focuses on integrating systems thinking for applied resilience and sustainable development in the context of good governance, responsible innovation and sustainable investment."

The ECG's 2026 AGM will take place during the mid-afternoon break of the 2025/26 DGL event.  and will run from 14:20 to 15:20. Registration for the DGL is not a requirement for attending the AGM.
