Join us for the Annual General Meeting of the RSC Newcastle upon Tyne and North East Coast Local Section, followed by an amazing interactive demonstration by Dr Kezia Sasitharan (Newcastle University) entitled “Coffee Power for Electronics”, in which she will introduce how everyday coffee waste can be transformed into carbon materials for sustainable energy storage devices such as supercapacitors.
In the session Kezia will:

In the session Kezia will:
- Share the story behind her RSC funded outreach project Supercapuccino and its aims to connect chemistry, sustainability, and community engagement.
- Give an accessible overview of the science how waste coffee grounds can be upcycled into high-performance carbon electrodes.
- Include a demonstrative element where you can make you own supercapuccino, charge it, and see how it can power electronics.
- Show live imaging of the electrodes using a portable atomic force microscope (AFM), where you can have a look at zooming into the nanoscale features enabling charge storage.
