Biography

Marc Ledendecker is Professor of Sustainable Energy Materials at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he has held a W2 tenure-track position since 2022. He also leads the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group 鈥淣ovel Catalyst Design鈥 at the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-N眉rnberg (Forschungszentrum J眉lich) since 2023. His research focuses on the development of advanced materials and catalyst concepts for electrochemical energy conversion, including water electrolysis, fuel cells, and CO鈧 reduction. A central theme of his work is understanding degradation mechanisms and designing highly stable nanostructured catalysts for harsh operating conditions.

Marc earned his doctorate in material science at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. He gained international experience through research stays at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining TUM, he led an independent research group at TU Darmstadt and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials.

His scientific contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Helmholtz Young Investigator Award (2023), the NanoMatFutur Award (2020), and the Joachim Walther Schultze Prize (2024).
