Course structure
The course is made up of eight modules:
- Cognitive science
How cognitive science research can enhance learning and inform effective teaching strategies in chemistry.
- Teaching approaches
A review of common teaching approaches used in the chemistry classroom, analysing how and when to use them.
- Literacy
The role of literacy in chemistry learning, with strategies to strengthen students’ reading, writing and spoken communication.
- Numeracy
Key numeracy challenges in chemistry and approaches to build confidence and fluency with essential maths skills.
- Lesson planning
Core principles of effective lesson planning and practical ways to improve the structure and delivery of your lessons.
- Purposeful practical work
The place of practical work in the chemistry curriculum, and how to support students in developing strong practical skills.
- Adaptive teaching
Principles and practices of adaptive teaching, helping you respond to diverse learning needs in your classroom.
- Checking for understanding
Methods for assessing student understanding, including questioning techniques, feedback and opportunities for reflection.
